New information from Dave Meltzer would seem to indicate that Bray Wyatt’s release was a last minute decision. According to Meltzer, Wyatt (real name Windham Lawrence Rotunda) was booked to return in August, yet was released the last day of July. Meltzer said the reason given by WWE officials was budget cuts.
Wyatt was recently spotted in a supermarket where he took a picture with a fan. His physique pointed to intensive training during his long absence and made fans excited for the expected return.
Wyatt is not the only superstar WWE released abruptly this year. WWE officials released Aleister Black, now wrestling in AEW as Malaki Black, right after his May 21 return after a long absence.
A flood of support poured in for Wyatt after his release from fans and colleagues in the industry. Former tag partner Matt Hardy tweeted a gif of the two of them hugging and Alexa Bliss told fans she was in shock because of the news.
