Poor Spike and his oops moments.
In “Triple Threat,” the latest episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Spikey Wikey played host to Dragon Lord Ember. He also double booked Thorax, King of the Changelings. The return of two beloved characters caused a massive over-reaction with Spike, who thought they’d immediately go to war.
I sympathize with Spike on this one. I almost never introduce my friends to each other, and Spike’s observations about their clashing personalities made perfect sense. Ember is tough and hard-headed, Thorax sensitive and timid.
Even so, they probably didn’t have to try and keep them separated like they did. Starlight Glimmer seemed to get it, but played along.
One scene that could have a double meaning, Ember kept confusing Starlight Glimmer and Twilight Sparkle.
“I’m sorry,” said Ember. “You both look and act so much alike.”
Starlight Sparkle and Twilight Glimmer were appeared very offended, as if Ember had just made a racial gaff. But writers probably meant this to be more of a lampshade for fan criticism that Starlight and Twilight are so similar. (Not to mention Starlight and Sunset, but it would be hard to bring up Sunset Shimmer when she’s never even been acknowledged outside of the Equestria Girls movies and comics.)

Both Ember and Thorax came off as charming, in my opinion, and are sure to inspire many opposites attract ship fics. ThorBer? EmRax?
