The Remembrancer, a livestreamer and Warhammer lore guru, has been demonetized by YouTube following a vague notification received just before Christmas.
The Remembrancer made the announcement on Dec. 31, waiting several days because he didn’t want to upset his family before the holiday.
Although YouTube didn’t give specifics on why his 1.5 thousand videos have been demonetized, The Remembrancer said he was branded as an “inauthentic creator.” His theory is that he was falsely flagged for using AI. In his video announcement, the Remembrancer repeatedly voiced his grievances about YouTube’s refusal to tell him exactly what they think he did. Rather, they gave vague policy quotes which he said can apply to nearly any YouTuber. He said he will not be uploading new videos on his main channel for the time being because he doesn’t even know what about his videos got him demonetized, and he doesn’t want to unknowingly do the same thing again.
He also speculated about an entirely AI channel called Remembrancer 40K (which has since changed its name.) He said this channel had copied and pasted his own channel’s description and even used an AI-generated copy of his own channel’s avatar. This was not his channel and the channel owners claimed they had never seen The Remembrancer’s channel, but The Remembrancer speculated that this channel’s existence might have been a factor in his own demonetization.
He does have multiple channels (Lodge-Cast, Lorecrimes and Remembrancer-Secundus) and a Patreon page.
He also shared an email he received from a YouTube representative in which the agent referred to him as “Little Andrew” before informing him that his appeal was denied, with the option to reapply for monetization in 90 days. He said he expects to have lost around £10,000 by the time the 90 days runs out. He said this will also make it more difficult for him to commission artwork from Warhammer Community artists to use in his videos.
Multiple users and commenters have noted that the email read as if it had been AI-generated.
