Angry Twitter Users Again Try To Cancel Nickelodeon

Angry Twitter users once again called for a boycott against Nickelodeon after the channel released a music video supporting Pride Month.

Nina West performed the video. West, who competed in the 11th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, won several challenges on the show (including Miss Congeniality) before moving on to several other projects and celebrity appearances. West attended the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards (the first to do so in full drag) and performed in commercials for Pantene, Pepsi and Disney.

The full video is shown in its entirety above. Nickelodeon turned comments off for the video, but several Twitter users were incensed, calling for boycotts and cancellations.

This is not the first time Twitter has attempted to cancel Nickelodeon. In another recent dust up, right-leaning users called for a boycott of the channel because of a Nick News episode featuring people of color talking about environmental racism. For example, the speakers accused a company of deliberately placing its pig farm in a minority community. Several parents threatened to call their cable companies to get the channel removed and accused Nickelodeon of “creating propaganda.”

Time will tell if this latest attempt at a cancellation will have any more impact than those previous.

Nina West’s various social media accounts can be found on Linktree. West also established The Nina West Foundation to support local nonprofits that help the LGBTQ community. Past recipients of grants from the Nina West Foundation include the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio, Besa Community Inc. and Dress for Success Columbus.
