Powerpuff Girls Live-Action Reboot Casts Nicholas Podany as Mojo Jojo’s Son, Joseph

The Powerpuff Girls are back! Again. And this time they’re going to have fingers.

Announced in early March, the CW has ordered a pilot for a live action sequel to Cartoon Network’s iconic series, which aired from 1998 to 2005 (with a not-to-be-mentioned reboot that fizzled out in 2016).

Details are few, but we do know that the live action series will not feature the Powerpuff Girls as children, as in the original series. Instead, this series will take place after the Powerpuff Girls have grown up. With the kind of baggage you might expect from a childhood of fighting kaiju. Blossom, played by Chloe Bennet, apparently has PTSD from her many battles.

Just recently, creators announced a new addition to the cast.  Nicholas Podany, from “Hart of Dixie,” will take the role of Joseph Jojo. Although not confirmed, it seems as if Jojojo (I came up with the nickname first) will play as Mojo Jojo’s emotionally conflicted son, who can’t decide if he wants to be sweet, like the Powerpuff Girls, or a megalomaniac like his father.

And that, my son, is how your mother and I made you.

Fan reactions to the new series announcements have been… mixed…

There’s no announcement yet as to when we might see the pilot, but although the series is certain to in no way resemble the original, there’s always a chance that it could be very good. I mean… just because a live-action diverts widely from the original source material, that doesn’t mean it has to be awful. Right?…
