LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Quietly Adds Denuvo Days Before Release

The anti-piracy software Denuvo is controversial among gamers. Consumers report that Denuvo causes a 20% spike in RAM usage and that the software decreases the performance for games which players legally own. For that reason, gaming companies frequently deal with backlash and bad reviews when they add the software to their games.

The new LEGO Batman game, Legacy of the Dark Knight, has generated a lot of hype among gamers. With its new open-world gameplay and mechanics which resemble the much beloved Batman: Arkham franchise, gamers were quick to add the latest installment to their wishlists or even prepurchase the game, but gamers who had a look at the Steam store page on May 9 were in for an unpleasant surprise. Just days before the game’s launch, it was announced that this game will incorporate the RAM chugging anti-piracy software.

Legacy of the Dark Knight already comes with very hefty PC requirements which will only be exasperated by the addition of the anti-piracy software.

This move comes after hackers have already cracked Denuvo. Soon after these cracks were announced, video game publishers retaliated with an announcement that players who legally own their games will now be required to connect to the internet for regular two-week “check-ins” in order to play them.
